Sinister Ball

This video’s been burning up the internet (for good enough reason — it’s catchy as hell, and you can’t deny the juvenile fun of “fuck you” as the chorus), and it reminded me of my own favorite kiss-off song.

Like “Fuck You”, the song captures the initial exuberance of giving in to your bile. (And yeah, to the dark side it leads, but it feels awfully good for a moment or two.) Only a lyricist as fundamentally empathetic as Jarvis Cocker could get away with writing a song that’s so nakedly about the pleasure of kicking someone else when they’re down.
